Design & Construction
Hand-built by Grado's Brooklyn team with hybrid construction combining mahogany and ipê wood. Mahogany exudes warm tones while ipê, a tropical and durable hardwood, acts as a sturdy base with excellent acoustic properties. Features new X Drivers with more powerful magnetic circuit, voice coil with decreased effective mass, and reconfigured diaphragm. The super annealed copper 12-conductor cable is housed in a more durable exterior. Black leather headband features white-stitched accent for distinctive style. Each pair weighs less than 400g for comfortable extended listening sessions.

The GS1000x represents over two decades of evolution in Grado's headphone design. This hybrid model reaches new heights when paired with X Drivers, new cables, and, for the first time, a combination of mahogany and ipê wood.
Wood Construction & Materials
Grado has utilized mahogany longer than any other wood in their designs. The GS1000x pairs mahogany with ipê wood, a tropical and durable wood that pairs incredibly well with mahogany. Mahogany exudes warm tones while ipê acts as a sturdy base for the any sound passing through its grain. This combination creates a synergistic effect where mahogany contributes warm tones while ipê provides structural support for sound transmission.
Spacious Soundstage
The headphones deliver a spacious soundstage allowing listeners to journey inside the music and hear the space between instruments. This capability results from coordinated engineering of large cushions, 50mm drivers, 12-conductor cables, and expansive housing working in concert.
50mm X Series Drivers
The GS1000x features 50mm X Series Drivers, the first full-bodied headphone to utilize this larger driver size. These speakers were specifically tuned to bring forth the warmth mahogany produces. The redesigned drivers include a more powerful magnetic circuit, voice coil with decreased effective mass, and reconfigured diaphragm—improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce distortion, and maintain harmonic integrity.

Hand-Built Craftsmanship
Each unit is hand-built by Grado's team in Brooklyn through multiple workbench stages before completion, continuing their tradition since 1953. Individual workbench craftsmanship ensures quality control throughout production. Starting in a kitchen in 1953, Grado Labs has been perfecting headphones for decades, and each GS1000x carries forward that heritage.
